Shame, Forgiveness, Repentance, Grace, Faith, Glory

Shame – a painful emotion caused by consciousness of guilt, shortcoming, or impropriety.

We all fall short of the glory GOD intended for us to have. Shame is what we feel when we realize that we are not as great was we want to be, thought we were, or believe we can be. Recently I had a life moment when I realized that I was not living up to my full potential. I have a lot to offer the world at large and my pride, ego, and insecurities caused me to be ashamed that I am not further along that I am.

Forgiveness – the act of forgiving (allowing room for error or weakness).

The key word here is “the act”. Forgiveness is an action that requires that something is done. With my recent epiphany I had to face my shortcomings, accept that I can do better, and make up my mind to do so. We all have areas in life where we are weak, just like we are strong in certain areas. When we focus on our strengths and love ourselves despite our weakness we make room for our best to shine forth. When we feel shame, the best thing we can do is to forgive ourselves, forget it, and move on with life. We cannot live constantly looking back at all the ways we’ve messed up.

Repentance – regret for any past action/ to change one’s mind.

A key point in forgiveness is to make up our minds. In order to do that, we often have to change our minds or at least our chain of thought. It’s okay to feel bad about something you did wrong or didn’t do right. It’s not okay to keep feeling bad. Let it be for only a moment, then simply make up your mind to do better next time and DO IT!!! GOD knows our hearts and HE knows when we feel bad. HE doesn’t expect us to keep beating ourselves up.

Grace – Divine love and protection bestowed freely on people.

Grace is a free gift that no one deserves. This is why we don’t have to keep beating ourselves up when we make wrong turns. It is my belief that the only way we have been afforded such a gift is because Jesus Christ fulfilled His destiny and gave His life in place of our shortcomings; past, present, and future. We are abundantly loved and constantly watched over and protected as long as our hearts are in the right place.

Faith – belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence.

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. I love that definition. Faith doesn’t have to make sense to anyone. Faith is something you know without actually knowing or understanding how you know. It is hard to explain but when you really believe others also believe with you and  for you. Gut feelings are often a sign of faith. Sometimes we are placed in situations that we must believe past what we see. The most hopeless situations have a way of turning around and becoming the greatest blessings.

Glory – adoration, praise, and thanksgiving offered in worship.

From glory to glory and from faith to faith. Life is meant to be lived one day at a time. There are good days and not so good days. Each day though is a blessing. We didn’t have to get another day but we did; because of that we should be grateful. Gratitude and thankfulness are a great way to give GOD glory. I always think, what if GOD stopped giving us new days? What could any of us do about it? Are we living in a way that shows that we are thankful for the precious gift of life that we have been afforded?
